Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) & Recycling Information

Legal Notice & Regulatory Compliance Policy

Last Updated: May 2026

At Aosom, sustainability and environmental regulatory compliance are core to our operations. We strictly fulfill our obligations regarding the proper collection, treatment, recovery, reuse, and recycling of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE), batteries, and packaging materials placed on the European Union (EU) single market.

This page provides mandatory and transparent information for end-users and consumers on waste separation, local take-back systems, and Aosom’s active participation in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance schemes across our European sales territories.

This policy is established in accordance with: Directive 2012/19/EU on WEEE, as amended (including Directive (EU) 2024/884); Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 concerning batteries; and Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging

  1. Crucial Recycling & Waste Separation Information for Consumers

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), waste batteries, and packaging materials must be managed responsibly and segregated at the source.

  • Prohibition of Disposal: Municipal solid waste streams (unsorted household trash/grey bins) must not be used for disposing of EEE or batteries. Doing so poses severe environmental risks and violates EU environmental laws.
  • Available Return Channels: End-users are legally encouraged or required to utilize designated local municipal recycling centers, public collection points, distributor/retailer take-back services, or authorized collective recycling infrastructure available in their respective regions.
  • Cost-Free Disposal: For private households, the return and disposal of consumer WEEE and waste batteries through public collective systems are generally free of charge.
  • Packaging Segregation: All shipping and product packaging must be sorted strictly by material type and disposed of via your local municipal curbside recycling systems or collection points.

2. Meaning of the Crossed-Out Wheeled Bin Symbol

Any product, battery, or packaging marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol falls under specific EU recycling directives.

  • This symbol signifies an absolute legal prohibition against discarding the item into mixed household waste.
  • It dictates an explicit requirement for separate collection (getrennte Erfassung).
  • Where chemically applicable, additional chemical symbols (e.g., Cd for Cadmium, Hg for Mercury, Pb for Lead) may be printed beneath the bin symbol, indicating that the battery contains hazardous substances above the legal threshold limits.

3. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Specifics

Waste electrical and electronic equipment should not be disposed of with unsorted household waste. Consumers should return WEEE to local municipal recycling centers or public collection points.

⚠️ IMPORTANT USER NOTICE: User Data Erasure Responsibility & Vendor Disclaimer
Before surrendering any old electrical or electronic device for disposal, recycling, or take-back, the end-user bears sole and absolute responsibility for deleting all personal data, confidential profiles, or user accounts from the device. Aosom assumes no liability or responsibility for any data remaining on returned devices.

Hardware Preparation: Prior to disposing of EEE, end-users must safely remove all old batteries,
accumulators, or light sources that are not permanently enclosed by the device, using standard tools.

4. Batteries and Waste Batteries Safety &Handling

Waste batteries must not be disposed of with unsorted household waste. Batteries must be collected separately.

  • Safety First: When handling waste batteries—especially high-energy Lithium-ion batteries commonly found in electronic toys or sports equipment—consumers must exercise caution. Damaged or unstable lithium batteries pose fire and chemical hazards.
  • Removal Rule: If a battery can be readily and safely removed by the end-user without tools, it must be extracted prior to disposal.

5. Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR Compliance)

In alignment with Regulation (EU) 2025/40, Aosom actively optimizes its packaging to minimize empty space and maximize recyclability. Consumers are urged to completely flatten cardboard boxes and separate plastic protective films before disposal.

6. Extended Producer Responsibility Obligations

Aosom is registered under applicable Extended Producer Responsibility requirements in the countries where required. We participate in authorized EPR compliance schemes, producer responsibility organizations and take-back systems.

7. EPR Compliance Schemes and Registration Matrix

EPR registration numbers are displayed where required by applicable law (such as Germany). In jurisdictions where a registration number is currently being processed or utilizes system APIs, it is marked as 'Available upon request'.

8. Commercial Returns vs. Environmental Take-Back Notice

The free-of-charge recycling infrastructure outlined on this webpage is exclusively reserved for the disposal of waste products (End-of-Life logistics).

This environmental take-back system does not handle standard commercial product returns, warranty claims, cooling-off period revocations, or parcels containing transport-damaged goods. For all standard product return requests or commercial customer service issues, please consult our dedicated Return & Refund Policy or contact our customer support desk.

9. Continuous Updates and Dynamic Disclaimer

National recycling frameworks, Producer Responsibility Organization structures, and local environmental collection modalities across EU member states are subject to frequent structural adjustments. Aosom reserves the right to dynamically amend, modify, or update this legal disclosure page at any time without prior notice to ensure absolute alignment with evolving national and Union-wide environmental legislation.
