No major tools needed. Pretty easy and kind of fast to set up (maybe 45 min). The bridge is pretty narrow. Wouldn't suggest for bigger kids. I'd say perfect for 1 and a 1/2 - 3 and a 1/2 yrs, maybe even a small 4 or 5 year old. Wasn't too pricey. So over
